Art Galleries / Figure Studies Paintings
The 17 female nude oil on canvas paintings were painted from private studies of three models; apart from ‘After Muybridge’, which was another painting inspired by the Victorian photographer.
Rosemary Taylor also produced a number of nude studies that were sketched in a church in Islington, using the media of charcoal and pastel on brown paper. These Life Studies (approx. 3’ x 4’) were created in great numbers and at great speed. At the time it was the middle of Winter and the church was very cold, so the models could only hold their pose for a few minutes at a time, making their creation even more remarkable.
A few months before she died Rosemary Taylor burnt a great many of her nude sketches.
